Abstract

“To break the marble spell is all the hand that serves the brain can do.”

Michelangelo Buonarroti, "The Sonnets of Michael Angelo Buonarroti", translated by John Addington Symonds, 1878

These are studio frames of one dancer against black. In several she is inside a sheet of stretch fabric, pushing it out with her hands and head until the body reads as a shape rather than a person. Others are plain dance pictures: a jump, a blank white mask, hands around a face. One frame keeps color, and the only color in it is skin.
